DIY Porch - a work in progress

When we had our house inspection in May 2004 the inspector told us that the porch would need to be at least partially replaced within the next few years. Boy was he right! The stairs were the first to go, and Matt built some temporary ones since I was pregnant with Freya and didn't need to be falling through rotten wood. Then back in May he can completely demolished the old porch with the help of a friend and his brother and got started on the new.

It's hard to tell in the last picture but that's Matt working on painting the spindles and railings white. At this point he thinks he will be staining the big support posts the same stain as the floors which look like this:


It's been a slow project since Matt only gets one day off at a time, and we've had a lot of rain this summer. I'm hoping we will get it all done before winter returns! There are lots of little projects left to complete.

Here is our friend the air conditioner. I'm so pleased to be cool on hot days that I'm not even bothered by how much space it takes up!
